for Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks

The Irvine Ranch Conservancy and partners have launched a new, highly interactive Web site that makes it easier than ever for the public to discover and explore the wonders of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. Partners on the site include OC Parks, the City of Irvine, California State Parks, the City of Newport Beach, Laguna Canyon Foundation and Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends.

Keeping Orange County's remaining native plant habitat healthy is a major - and extremely important - task. Even more difficult is restoring degraded habitat that has lost its native species. Many issues play a role in the depletion of native plant communities, including wildfire, development and the spread of invasive plant species. In a determined effort to protect the county's varied native plant communities, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) is taking proactive steps to help cultivate native seeds with the goal of restoring about 2,000 acres of land to more natural conditions over the next 10 years on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.
